Case Studies: Stone Residence southborough landscape project

This was an interesting project because the architecture of the house is unusual and the clients wanted the landscaping to be natural and unique. Our design integrated the home and garden together beautifully. In the center island of the driveway we did a dry pond area, surrounded by washed stone and perennial grasses. An ornamental globe blue spruce and cutleaf Japanese maple tree are focal points within the garden space. The property is surrounded by large trees creating areas for shade gardens. Lining the driveway are flowering rhododendron underplanted with pachysandra, daylilies and hosta. The backyard bordering the lawn is planted with a mixed border of perennials, many chosen to attract butterflies. Along the tennis court are more shade loving shrubs and perennials. There is a bluestone patio beside the tennis court for people to sit and watch the matches. A stonewall encloses the space. In the front of the house there is another natural garden. We placed large boulders to create interest and a raised bed. There are birch clumps by the front entrance and a magnificent Japanese maple at the opposite end of the space. In between there are flowering rhododendron underplanted with iris, daylilies, Shasta daisy and peonies. In the front of the property facing the street we did another dry pond area. There is a weeping Norway spruce for a focal point in the middle of some large evergreens which provide privacy from the road.
